Solange Umuhoza was born and raised in Rwanda and moved to the United States in 2018 to pursue her bachelor’s degree at the College of William and Mary. She graduated in 2022 with a degree in Data Science and a minor in Math. She furthered her education by completing a master’s degree in Computer Science, focusing on Computational Operations Research, in 2024. During her academic journey, Solange interned at 2OS in the summer of 2023, where she conducted a comparative analysis between Gradient Boosting Machines (GBMs) and Explainable Boosting Machines (EBMs), evaluating their performance in terms of feature selection, prediction accuracy, computational efficiency, and explainability using multiple real data datasets. During her master’s program, Solange also worked on a project to optimize logistics costs for a large steel structure manufacturing company. Additionally, Solange served as a teaching assistant for calculus students at William and Mary.
In her free time, Solange enjoys cooking, going for walks, and spending time with friends. She is also currently learning how to use a sewing machine. Solange is thrilled to be returning to 2OS, where she looks forward to applying her skills and knowledge in data science.
